Welcome to Tanzania! You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Arusha. After settling in, you’ll receive a comprehensive safari briefing from your guide. The afternoon is yours to relax or explore Arusha’s charming town (perhaps visiting a local market or coffee plantation if time allows). As evening falls, you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner to fuel up for the adventures ahead. Meals: Dinner. Overnight: Arusha Lodge/Hotel.
After a hearty breakfast, it’s time to head out on your first safari adventure. We drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its massive elephant populations, ancient baobab trees, and diverse birdlife. As you enter the park, you’ll immediately understand why it’s called the “Elephant Kingdom” – herds of these majestic creatures are abundant, often clustered around the Tarangire River in search of water. Your expert guide will navigate the park, stopping to point out other wildlife like lions, giraffes, zebras, and numerous bird species. The landscape is dotted with giant baobabs, providing a dramatic backdrop for your game drive. We’ll spend the entire day exploring the park, returning to your lodge for dinner and a good night’s rest. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Overnight: Lodge/Tented Camp near Karatu or Tarangire.
An early start is in store for today as we journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Your destination is the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s largest intact volcanic calderas. We’ll drive along the rim and then begin the descent into the crater floor, approximately 600 meters below. Once on the crater floor, we’ll spend a full 5-6 hours exploring this “Garden of Eden” teeming with wildlife. The crater is home to an astonishing concentration of animals – it’s often said that you can see more wildlife in one day in Ngorongoro than in many other parks in a week. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo) and other iconic species like hippos, zebras, and antelopes. The landscape is lush and green, a stark contrast to the arid plains outside. We’ll have a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, a delightful way to enjoy the surroundings. After a long but rewarding day, we’ll head back up the crater rim and return to your lodge in Karatu for dinner and an early rest. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Overnight: Lodge/Tented Camp in Karatu.
Enjoy a final Tanzanian breakfast at your lodge. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to explore a bit more. We suggest a visit to the local market in Karatu, where you can browse colorful handicrafts and meet friendly locals. Alternatively, you could opt for a short coffee plantation tour to learn about Tanzania’s coffee culture. Afterward, we’ll bid farewell to the Northern Circuit as we drive back to Arusha. Along the way, we might make a stop at a scenic viewpoint to take in the views of the Rift Valley. Once in Arusha, you’ll be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home.
