The Machame route, nicknamed the “Whiskey Route,” is the most popular trail on Kilimanjaro, and for good reason. It offers a superb blend of fantastic scenery, diverse habitats, and an excellent acclimatization profile, especially on the 7-day itinerary. This version includes an extra day at Karanga Camp, which breaks up the challenging section before the summit push, allowing for better rest and altitude adaptation. This “climb high, sleep low” approach makes the trek challenging but very achievable, with a high success rate. It’s perfect for adventurous hikers who want a physically engaging climb with stunning views of the Southern Ice Fields and the iconic Barranco Wall.
